North York Moors from Lendales Farm holidays
Hole of Horcum.

The Hole of Horcum is a large natural ampitheatre which is skirted by the A169 between Pickering and Goathland on the North York Moors.

A "Devil's Punchbowl" type feature, local legend has it that the ampitheatre was made by a giant, who scooped up a large ball of earth and tossed it aside to create a nearby hill.

Pickering Castle.

An excellent example of a motte and bailey castle, built by William the Conqueror, with much of the original keep, towers and walls remaining, and offering superb views.

It was used by a succession of medieval kings as a hunting lodge, holiday home and even a stud farm. An exhibition in the chapel explores the castle's facinating history.

The North Yorkshire Moors Railway.

Pickerings steam railway is the most popular heritage railway in Britain. Locomotives take visitors through eighteen miles of stunning countryside of the North York moors national park.

Trains leave Pickering and call at Levisham and Goathland on its way to Grosmont.
Goathland, also better known in the TV series of Heartbeat as Aidensfield and Hogsmeade in Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone.
